Let My Love Open Your Heart

April 18, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

A few days ago, I posted on the Christian Business Daily Facebook Page this video, and asked, “What do you think of this song?” I’ll let you visit there and look at the entire conversation, but the one commenter wondered why I was posting a video from a known homosexual on a Christian page?

Pete Townshend, last I checked, is not up for any Dove Awards, or is putting out any gospel or worship albums in the near future.  So, the question is, can God speak through a non-believing rock icon? ……

My daughters wake up every morning to music.  They will listen to anything, but one morning about 3 weeks ago, they had on a Chicago classic rock station.  This song was on it, and they cranked it up.  They loved it.  I was getting into it because it was loud enough to hear downstairs while I was making breakfast for them.

The last time I heard this song was in a movie, “Dan, In Real Life”.  I really like this move, not only because of Steve Carell, but it was a great story about a widowed columnist with 3 daughters who finds true love – except the love at first sight is his brother’s girlfriend.  It’s a great movie with humor, emotion, and reality.

My daughter’s really loved this song, and I agreed with them.  I looked up the lyrics because I really felt drawn to a couple lines that were running in my head.

When people keep repeating
That you’ll never fall in love
When everybody keeps retreating
But you can’t seem to get enough

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

When everything feels all over
When everybody seems unkind
I’ll give you a four-leaf clover
Take all the worry out of your mind

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door

To your heart I have the only key to your heart
I can stop you falling apart
Try today, you’ll find this way
Come on and give me a chance to say

Let my love open the door
It’s all I’m living for
Release yourself from misery
Only one thing’s gonna set you free

That’s my love
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

When tragedy befalls you
Don’t let them bring you down
Love can cure your problem
You’re so lucky I’m around

Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

Those words in blue just kept running in my head, and I just was overwhelmed thinking about Father who holds the key to my heart.  That key is Love.  And His Love opens all the doors in my life, calms my fears, and carries me through trials.

I immediately downloaded an MP3 from iTunes so that it was in my iPod “running mix”.

Then, a week later, I had a very vivid dream.

I was sitting on an airplane (those that know me intimately, know that when I dream about airplanes, it’s very significant and has a specific meaning to me).  We were deep in this hanger and it appeared to be a highly secured area.  As the airplane (actually, a jet) started to taxi, we came up a large door.  The plane got right up to the door, looked like it was going to hit it, but the door quickly opened up and kept right on moving.

The plan kept taxiing through this hanger and kept approaching huge closed doors.  Every time we approached a door, almost hitting it, it flung open, parted open, or rolled up.  I recall about 20 doors, and it was very much like the opening scene from the TV show Get Smart.  As we went through the last door, we arrived in a spacious room with an extremely high ceiling, concrete walls, and a long, shallow window near the roof line.  We took off towards the window, and the window looked to be just high enough and wide enough for the plane to pass through, but I wasn’t sure.  We picked up speed and smashed through that window into a clear, starry night.

Whenever I get a dream like this, I write it out.  As God has been taking me through this journey, I’ve had a fair number of specific, memorable dreams that provided me warnings, encouragement, and preparation.  I like to keep them documented so I can refer back to them as I ponder the meaning and see many of the things come to fruition that I dreamed weeks, even months prior.

2 mornings later, I was running on the treadmill and “Let My Love Open Your Heart” started playing about 3 miles into the run.  Immediately, my mind went to my dream, and I saw all those open doors in front of me, and was overwhelmed by the emotions of deeply understanding the power and love of my Father who is responsible for opening every door in front of me and unlocking the power and love in my own heart.

I was laughing out loud and just had an amazing time of experiencing the connection of this song with what I dreamt and experienced over the past few months, and quite frankly, my entire life.  How amazing to be able to have a moment of worship at 6:00am, running on a treadmill, full of sweat, and listening to a classic rock song.

So if you ask me, can Father speak to his kids using a rock song from a non-believer?  In my experience, yes.  And I really love him for that, because he knows the kind of music I love, and he knew that the timing of all of this would impact me deeply.  He crafted a moment in time for me just because he wanted to show me he loved me.

Thanks, Papa.
