What makes an ordinary person extraordinary?
TV host and author Harvey Hook believes everyone inhabits the ability to make a difference in this world. In his new book titled The Power of an Ordinary Life (Tyndale), Hook says “ordinary people become extraordinary when they respond to God’s call, give themselves permission to become fully themselves, and take redemptive action in their public and private lives.”
Harvey speaks with clarity to those whose calling is in the business world. You’ll be challenged, strengthened, and moved by what Harvey has to share.
We are pleased to have Harvey as our special guest in this exclusive CBD Insider Teleseminar.

Hook, a self-described “little man” from a “little place” has gone from his small-town beginnings to the White House, but he was not driven by the pursuit of power or influence. Instead, he has built his life on a desire to touch the world around him and serve the world beyond him. “If you choose to embrace all that God has for you, you will become a person of redemptive action who enters into reconciling relationships and transforms the world around you,” he writes. “It unites us as a people, transcends race, culture and politics, and it allows us to intuitively respond with the transforming power of God’s love.”
In his book, Hook also recounts true life stories of ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances to examine the lives of others who have dared to make a difference. Chapters are devoted to helping readers find their purpose, their vision and their life’s mission as Hook will challenge all readers to change their world.
“You are here for a purpose,” he emphasizes. “God did not place you in life’s audience merely to observe, nor did he give you an audience for whom you must perform. He placed you on center stage in the midst of the world he created, exactly where he wanted you. People, circumstances, triumph, and tragedy will act upon you. What will you do?”
Harvey Hook is regional director for The Gathering, an organization that addresses the moral, ethical and spiritual needs of businesspeople. He also hosts an interview program that is carried nationally on the Sky Angel satellite network. Harvey has shared the platform with Billy Graham, Charles Colson, Elizabeth Dole, Dr. Tony Evans, Dr. Tony Campolo, General H. Norman Schwarzkopf, and a host of others. He is a contributing author to Parents & Teenagers (1984), and Moving Beyond Belief: Practicing the Presence of Christ in Your Daily Life (1993). Harvey and his wife Rita live in Columbus, Ohio.

Is there any power of an ordinary life? All man’s effort without God is vain.

Akinbileje: The book discusses how God can use ordinary people. So to your point, Harvey is trying to say that you don’t have to be rich or famous for God to use you. By the way, there will be the ability to listen in via the web, or if you have Skype, you could call in that way.
