One conspiracy I do believe in….

June 18, 2010 by

On Monday at 1pm Eastern, we’re going to be interviewing our good friend and acclaimed author, Perry Marshall.  Perry is well-known in marketing circles for being the definitive guru for Google Adwords marketing (For a Free course in advertising success with Google Adwords, click the link).  Perry is also known (and will soon be wider known) for not only defending, but scientifically proving the existence of intelligent design in creation.  More to come about that in the future….

We wanted to reproduce an article for you that Perry wrote, which Matt and I believe is absolutely critical for Kingdom-minded entrepreneurs and business owners to understand.  It’s your thoughts. In Phillipians 4:8, Paul says, “Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.” (The Message)

Do you believe that your thoughts can affect your outcomes?  Here’s what Perry’s perspective is, and that will be the basis of our discussion on Monday on The Renegade Christian Entrepreneur Radio Show

One conspiracy I do believe in is the conspiracy to suffocate you in paralyzing mental garbage and global negativity.

I don’t generally buy into conspiracy theories… but I do believe in cosmic episodes of stupidity and planned mass mediocrity.

The #1 conspiracy of the modern world is to choke your brain with sewage and kill your spirit with overwhelming feeling that you are small and insignificant and helpless.

I almost *never* watch the news. I figure if there’s something I absolutely have to know about, somebody will call me and tell me about it. That theory has worked pretty well so far.

But on Monday I was in a restaurant and CNN was on. Couldn’t help but gawk at the endless parade of catastrophes.

I know that CNN is “normal” to most “normal” people. But don’t forget, most normal people accomplish fairly little in their 70+ trips around the sun. Those of us who are going somewhere in life have better things to do than listen to relentless droning about 147 tragedies that we have no ability to solve.

Right now, especially with the Gulf oil spill, the world is AWASH in negativity.

You as an entrepreneur MUST fight this. Proactively. Because if you don’t it’ll kill your business, kill your sales, kill your dreams and everything you really care about.

Watching CNN while you eat breakfast is like visiting a cholera epidemic at a refugee camp and letting sick people drool on you. Then changing their bedpans and rubbing your eyes and licking your hands.

Listen up: The mass news media is NOT your friend.

They exist for the purpose of selling you fear, paranoia, and prescription drugs.

Not only must you protect yourself from the constant, incessant paralysis of depression, you need to combat it with your customers.

You need to tell them what’s GOOD. You need to greet them with a smile and with encouragement.

You need to talk about what’s HAPPENING.

You need to celebrate little tiny victories EVERY SINGLE DAY.

And… when you have a major victory in your life, you need to telegraph it to encouraging people who will celebrate it with you. Because GOOD NEWS is NEWS INDEED.

EndRant.

    Thanks Perry,
I have believed that for a very long time. I recall several years ago a guru in the natural health industry wrote a book and said basically only watch the news once a week – it’s too stressful on your body to deal with all the negative influences bombing you every day. I agree with you if it’s important enough someone will surely tell you about it.

Three years ago while on vacation I got set free from the news media. The small cottage we rented had no TV. When we got home, I decided to see how long I could go without Fox news, and It took about a month to completely break the habit. Like you, I figured people would tell me about the major stuff I needed to know about, and so far that has worked. I rarely even read the local paper, but I know all the business related things in my community. Really, there is only one major world event I’m looking for, the second coming of Jesus Christ. I think I’ll know when that one happens. Keep smiling.

I agree that the media focuses on to much negativity and we should avoid filling our minds with it. I rarely watch the news, but on the other hand I firmly believe that the main reason our great country is slipping to the point of no return is the fact that Christians choose not to stay informed about whats going on within our government and country and fail to hold our elected officials accountable for what they say and do! God holds people accountable and so should we hold the people we elect accountable for their actions. Most Christians don’t even vote when they should count it a privilage and a duty. We MUST stay informed through an outlet we can trust and vote in line with the word of God. In the process of staying informed we will encounter negative things that we should not dwell upon so take them to God and pray that He will change them or use them for his Glory. News outlets I trust: Fox, Newsmax.com, Worldnetdaily.com
Just remember this daily, His will be done, not mine.

You are so right thank you! There are many people who have yet to learn this lesson in liberation…freedom to think and do more useful things.

    Matt and Perry,

thanks for that refreshing rant. @Tom, I agree that, as Christians, we must stay informed. In fact, Christ has called us to glory and excellence; we are to be leaders in society in everything that is right. But, the news media don’t inform, they peddle negativity and useless entertainment.

Celebrating and sharing every little victory is a great strategy. We are to rejoice always, to delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desire of our heart. And, is not every victory, great and small, a gift from Him. We have positioned ourselves to receive it, but we did not win it. So, let us delight ourselves in our God and Father, and ignore the devil and his junk.

    Thanks again!

I just wanted to comment on this because I have come to realize that this concept is super huge and – because of the idea that it is a new agey thing – the best kept secret in Christianity.

The thoughts we think direct our actions. The difference between a person who succeeds and a person who fails is their thoughts. That’s it.

Having spent time in a super dispensational church who didn’t let people sway to a good song AND having spent time in a pretty pentecostal church with people getting slain in the spirit and messages in tongues happening almost every Sunday, I now realize that both sides are missing the boat.

Jesus preached about the Kingdom of God. What did He mean by that? What is the Kingdom? Jesus said the Kingdom is inside of us. Paul said that the Kingdom is love and peace. Jesus also taught that the Holy Spirit would teach us all truth and the truth would set us free. Romans 12:2 (my life verse) says that we are not to be conformed to this world but transformed. What does it mean to be transformed? Matt, you commented to me once that I was a butterfly. That is transformation. I can never again be a caterpillar. I am different. Going back to Romans, how are we to be transformed? By the renewing of our mind. In other words, by allowing the Holy Spirit to teach us all truth and change our thoughts.

    Our thoughts are hugely huge.

What is the difference between a believer and a non-believer? The thoughts they believe to be true about Jesus.

Both churches that I was in – dispensationalist and charismatic – missed THE primary ministry of the Holy Spirit – making us new creatures and transforming us.

As Christians, we have something that no other world religion has – the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit and a relationship with the Living Lord. It is heartbreaking to me how many of us settle for “religion” instead.

So, yes, I very much believe that our thoughts not only can affect our outcomes but taking it a step further, our thoughts DIRECT and CAUSE our outcomes.

It’s not new agey at all. It is THE good news of the full gospel. Jesus came to not only save us from our sins but fill us with Him and transform us – to give us the victorious life of an overcomer. How? By changing what we think.

Sorry for the length of this but I am very passionate about this. Jesus saved my life. I overcame alcoholism, depression, post traumatic stress disorder and domestic violence based solely on this concept. I walk in freedom today because I allowed Jesus to show me His truth and change me.
